Justin Drew Bieber (/ˈbbər/; born March 1, 1994)[2][3] is a Canadian singer and songwriter. Bieber's current manager, Scooter Braun, first discovered him through his YouTube videos in 2007.[4] Braun was impressed with the videos, which resulted in him contacting Bieber's mother, Patricia Mallette, about wanting to work with Bieber. Having convinced his mother to work with him, Braun arranged for Bieber to meet with singer-songwriter Usher, in Atlanta, Georgia. As a result, Bieber was signed to RBMG,[5] a record label based in Atlanta, jointly with Island Records via the Island Def Jam Music Group with a recording contract offered by a prominent record executiveL.A. Reid.[1][6]
He released his debut EPMy World, in November 2009. It has been certified platinum in the United States. He became the first artist to have seven songs from a debut record to chart on the Billboard Hot 100.[7] Bieber released his first full-length studio albumMy World 2.0, in March 2010. It debuted at or near number one in several countries and was certified platinum in the United States. It was preceded by the single, "Baby", which is also, as of July 2014, the YouTube video with the most dislikes, and the most views on a Vevo platform.[8] He followed up the release of his debut album with his first headlining tour, the My World Tour, the remix album titled, My Worlds Acoustic, and Never Say Never – The Remixes, and the 3D biopic-concert film Justin Bieber: Never Say Never. Bieber released his second studio album, Under the Mistletoe, in November 2011 when it debuted at number one on the Billboard200. Bieber released his third studio album, Believe, in June 2012. Bieber's fourth studio album Purpose is scheduled to be released in November 2015.
He has won numerous fan-voted awards, including American Music Award for Artist of the Year in 2010 and 2012. He was nominated for Best New Artist and Best Pop Vocal Album at the 53rd Grammy Awards. His fan base, dubbed "beliebers", largely consist of early to mid-adolescent women. He was listed three times by Forbes magazine as one of the top ten most powerful celebrities in the world in 2011, 2012, and 2013.[9][10][11]
